Over the last two weeks, working mostly in the evenings and at weekends, I completed the frames for all five segments that make up the “Effem” module: two 80 × 40 cm segments, one 40 × 40 cm segment, and two 80 × 40 cm segments with 10° end profiles. Zuglaufmeldung: Darf ich fahren?

See below for the English version. Im deutschen Eisenbahnbetrieb gibt es zwei grundlegende Betriebsverfahren: Zugmeldebetrieb und Zugleitbetrieb. Der Zugmeldebetrieb wird überwiegend auf Hauptstrecken angewendet. Dabei überwachen die Fahrdienstleiter die Streckenabschnitte zwischen benachbarten Bahnhöfen und melden sich gegenseitig die Züge. Erst wenn der nächste Bahnhof einen Zug angenommen hat und der Fahrweg frei ist, darf dieser in den folgenden Streckenabschnitt einfahren. Der Zugleitbetrieb kommt dagegen meist auf eingleisigen Nebenbahnen oder Strecken mit geringer technischer Ausstattung zum Einsatz. Anstelle fester Blockabschnitte reserviert der Zugleiter jeweils einen gesamten Streckenabschnitt zwischen zwei Zuglaufmeldestellen für einen Zug. Unterwegs im Zugleitbetrieb: Die Schlüssel der WLE

Der Hauptgrund, warum ich mich zunächst ausschließlich auf die WLE konzentriert habe, war die Möglichkeit, den Zugleitbetrieb auf einer privaten Nebenbahn kennenzulernen. Die Erfahrungen, die ich hier sammle, werden später direkt in das Betriebskonzept meiner Verden-Walsroder Eisenbahn (VWE) einfließen. Die Westlippische Eisenbahn (WLE) von Christoph Riegel ist eine Privatbahn, deren Übergang zur Deutschen Bundesbahn im Bahnhof Neulippertor liegt. Der Streckenabschnitt zwischen Neulippertor und Dellbrück wird als Zugleitstrecke betrieben. Im nordamerikanischen Sprachraum würde man von „Dark Territory“ oder einer dispatcher-gesteuerten Strecke sprechen. FREMO H0-RE/H0m Köln/Bonn 2026 Meet: Meter Meets Standard

My 2026 FREMO circuit continued with a visit to the Köln/Bonn regional meeting in Bonn-Oberkassel during the Corpus Christi (Fronleichnam) weekend from 4–6 June. I made the two-hour drive from Frankfurt to Oberkassel and arrived in time for the trial run on Thursday evening. The meeting featured a total of eight operating sessions, including the trial session. Each day began with a morning briefing at 9:15 am, followed by the first session at 9:30 am. The afternoon session started around 2:30 pm, while the after-dinner session got underway at 7:30 pm. After months of planning my Verden-Walsroder Eisenbahn track plan with the aid of Google Maps, Google Earth, Bing Maps, OpenRailwayMap, and every other image source I could get hold of, there was one thing that continued to bother me. Satellite imagery provides an excellent “helicopter view”, but it does not show what is really on the ground. Verden-Walsroder Eisenbahn (VWE): Construction of Module “Effem (Eitze)” Begins

It confirmed both my track plan and my ideas for the industrial area of the “Effem (Eitze)” module. The industrial district itself is relatively flat, but today the line is heavily overgrown, with vegetation crowding both sides of the right-of-way. This gives the railway the typical character of a lightly maintained branch line—slightly neglected and somewhat overgrown. According to VWE staff, the vegetation along the line is cleared only once a year. That meet usually marks the start of my annual FREMO circuit around Germany, where I normally pick two or three meets to visit, operate, and catch up with people along the way. After watching FREMO operations in action for some time, I have come to appreciate what is probably the most important — yet least visible — role behind the scenes: the FREMO yardmaster. The role goes by different names depending on the meet or region. Some call it a shadow-station manager, others a train composition builder.
