Verden-Walsroder Eisenbahn (VWE): Looking Beyond Effem – The Other Customers in 1984
Once I had converted the 1984 VWE freight figures into approximate wagon numbers, one figure started to bother me. Effem explains almost everything. But not quite everything. The statistics still contain 4,982 tonnes of “Other” traffic. At first that looked like a rather anonymous category. Looking again at the industries along the Verden (Aller) Süd–Stemmen line, however, I realised that it may not be anonymous at all. There were quite a few smaller rail-served customers.
