Looking again at the wagons in Dieter Riehemann’s photographs, I realised that I could start with something much more useful than a long list of suitable Bundesbahn models: wagons that I could actually place on the Verden–Stemmen line. That does not answer every question. A photograph can show me a wagon without revealing its load or customer. Equally, a few photographed trains cannot show every type that visited the railway.
